Tamara Awartani, the Director of PS4L, S4D expert recently came back from representing Palestine and PS4L in Berlin leading one of many parallel S4D workshops – football as a bridge to education and work – in the program of “Welcome to Football” run by Deutsche Kinder- und Jugendstiftung DKJS, sponsored by the DFL Foundation and the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration
The workshop focused onPS4L model in sports and education, and included fruitful discussions with many interesting participants from different organizations and clubs.
‘Welcome to Football’ programme from DKJS enables young refugees to access sports activities, thereby supporting integration and social interactions. The main strategy to do achieve this is by forming ‘welcome alliances’, that is, encouraging Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 football clubs to collaborate with local education providers, civic initiatives, local actors and amateur clubs.
