On behalf of GIZ, S4D department, PS4L organized a ToT (training of trainers) “Football and Life Skills” session which took place from the 7th till the 9th of October at the Palestine Girls’ Technical College in Ramallah.

The training was again organized in cooperation with the German Football Federation (DFB) and the coach Niklas Grau. The aim of the training was to train the local coaches how to teach life skills through sports activities and in this way empower the youth and children they work with.

On a theoretical level the participants learned about the different types of life skills that can be taught through sports (e.g. teamwork, self-confidence, decision making, perseverance…). Furthermore, they learned about the difference between different age groups and gender and how to approach each one of the groups. The participants were also given practical advice on how to be a role model, how to promote collaboration, just and equal treament, etc. There was also a lecture held by a representative of the Ministry of Labour about the need to inform youth about the possible advantages of vocational training compared to university education.

The practical part was aimed at developing coaching skills in practice. The participants had to organize a training session and implement what they have learned. The task was reviewed and the participants received feedback at the end.

The next level ToT will take place in Ramallah from the 4th till the 6th of November.
