Empowering Youth and Women Through Career Guidance and Labor Law Education
In September 2024, Palestine Sports for Life, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor, organized a series of educational visits to refugee camps, beginning with Qalandia Refugee Camp on September 2, 2024. The events, aimed at providing career guidance and educating participants on labor laws, continued in Dheisha Refugee Camp on September 10 and Aida Refugee Camp on September 12. These sessions, part of the ongoing Safe Spaces program, were designed to support both mothers and daughters by offering critical insights into the current employment landscape in Palestine.
At the heart of these visits were lectures delivered by experts Iyad and Thaer. Iyad’s presentation focused on identifying key growth sectors in Palestine’s job market, such as information technology, construction, and education. He emphasized the importance of aligning individual skills with industry demands and discussed the value of internships and vocational training as pathways to enhancing employability.
Thaer’s lecture provided a comprehensive overview of Palestinian labor laws, outlining workers' rights, contract terms, and legal protections. He also addressed workplace ethics and the legal framework governing employee-employer relationships, offering practical advice on understanding contracts and resolving disputes in the workplace.
These visits reflected a collaborative effort to equip young women and job seekers with the tools they need to succeed in the job market, while ensuring they are aware of their rights under Palestinian labor law. By fostering an environment of education and empowerment, these sessions helped bridge the gap between job seekers and opportunities in a competitive employment landscape.
