Empowering Palestinian Girls Through Running: Building Strength, Resilience, and Community

In a powerful initiative aimed at transforming lives, Palestine Sports for Life (PS4L), in partnership with Free to Run, has successfully implemented the ‘Building Palestinian Girls’ and Young Women’s Resilience Through Running’ program. This initiative has created a safe space for young women to develop confidence, resilience, and leadership through sports.

Throughout the reporting period, the program made significant progress, engaging 240 female participants across 10 centers. Key milestones included bi-weekly check-ins, monthly management calls, and a specialized Training of Trainers session designed to enhance coaching skills. Additionally, participants took part in major international events, such as the ‘United Movement for Peace’ and the ‘Right to Education Marathon,’ where they showcased their determination and brought global attention to the importance of education and mental well-being in conflict-affected areas.

A remarkable story of perseverance comes from Ghazal Haridi, a young girl who battled oxygen deficiency from an early age. Despite her challenges, she embraced the program’s running sessions with determination, using breathing exercises and structured training to build her strength. Today, she serves as an inspiration to many, proving that resilience and dedication can turn obstacles into triumphs.

This program has not only improved participants' physical and mental health but has also fostered a strong sense of community, encouraging girls to take charge of their futures. By providing a platform for empowerment through sports, PS4L and Free to Run continue to pave the way for lasting change in the lives of Palestinian girls.
