From Palestine to Mexico: Aya’s Journey as a Young Leader

The Street Child World Cup 2026 Impact Report highlights the inspiring journey of Aya Hayabey, a young Palestinian who took part in the event in Mexico as a Young Leader, representing Palestine on an international stage.

For Aya, the experience was much more than a sports event.

It was a life changing journey that helped her grow, build confidence, develop new skills, and connect with young people from different countries and cultures.

One of the most meaningful moments for Aya was speaking during the opening ceremony.

It was the first time she had delivered a speech in English in front of such a large audience, although she felt nervous, the experience encouraged her to step outside her comfort zone and discover what she was capable of achieving.

Aya also took part in the Congress, where she facilitated an interactive activity for young people, the experience reinforced for her the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels included, heard, and able to participate.

Reflecting on her journey, Aya shared:

“It was a life-changing experience that helped me grow, learn, and gain confidence in myself.”

Her story reflects the power of sport to go beyond competition and create opportunities for learning, leadership, confidence, connection, and positive change.

Although the Street Child World Cup has come to an end, Aya’s experience continues to shape her journey, as she says in the report, young leaders carry stories, messages, and hopes that can inspire others and contribute to a better future.
